Esteban Chaves quits, won a historic Tour of Lombardy

Colombian Esteban Chaves, 36 years old to turn in January, has announced that he will retire at the end of 2025.
In his career, 2016 shines above all, the year in which he won the first Monument in history for a rider from the South American country with his success at the Giro di Lombardia, finished second at the Giro d’Italia after a day in the pink jersey and third at the Vuelta a few months later.
Since 2022 he has been defending the colors of EF Education-EasyPost and has collected three stage wins at the Giro (2016, 2018, and 2019) and two at the Vuelta (2015), for a total of seventeen successes, eight of them in the World Tour. He has competed in the Tour de France four times, with a thirteenth-place finish in Paris in 2021 as his best result. Ten years earlier he was the winner of the Tour de l’Avenir.
In 2025 he had raced among others the Vuelta, from which he withdrew on stage 12, as well as the Tour de Burgos and the Dauphiné, which he finished 20th overall.
