Roma market, striker target for January: a face well known to Gasperini is back in fashion

Although on the wings of enthusiasm for the first place in the standings, Roma does not hide its ambition to further shore up the squad at Gian Piero Gasperini’s disposal, especially in attack: the Giallorossi have in fact scored 15 goals, sharing among the top ten in the standings the second worst attack (with the same number of goals scored by Juventus seventh and Lazio eighth), ahead of only Udinese (12 goals).

There are several names on the Giallorossi management’s notebook, and there is not only talk of a center forward: in recent days the name of Joshua Zirkzee, embroiled in Manchester United’s technical and environmental problems, has been mentioned, and a name dear to Gian Piero Gasperini, that of Ademola Lookman, whom the Grugliasco coach had at Atalanta,

has come back into fashion.

The Orobic club, on several occasions, has reiterated that in order to sell Lookman it is not willing to compromise, as demonstrated both in the summer of 2024 with PSG’s offer returned to sender (and a first exclusion of the Nigerian national from the squad, before the reintegration agreed with Gasperini) and in the one just past, with the vain assault of Inter that had again forced Lookman to stay out of the squad for the first weeks of the season.

Lookman, who with Gasperini on the bench won the Europa League in 2024 by scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, has, however, shown on several occasions that he aspires to a further leap in quality, and Dea’s downsized ambitions in the league could lower the Nerazzurri’s pretensions, at the same time convincing Lookman to leave the Champions League stage to pursue new goals by returning to Gasperini’s court, this time in a different jersey.
