The latest chapter of a season below expectations also did not start under the best auspices: Lewis Hamilton, in FP2 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, did not go beyond 14th place, confirming a feeling in fact never born with the SF-25. His best time was 856 thousandths slower than the fastest time ever, set by Lando Norris in McLaren, as well as almost three tenths worse than that of his teammate at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc. Commenting to Sky Sports microphones on the practice day, the British champion analyzed rather severely the problems of his Ferrari.

“It has to be said that not contesting the first session is a disadvantage regardless – began Hamilton, who had to surrender (as required by the regulations) an FP1 to an up-and-coming driver, in this case Arthur Leclerc -. I did my best to make up for lost time but I was faced with the usual balancing problems. I am not losing confidence, I believe in the potential of this car, but I asked my mechanics for help to figure out how to try to solve the understeer and ‘bouncing’ problems I had during the session. We hope to find a solution as soon as possible”.

“Should we be able to figure out what to do before FP3, we can hope for a good qualifying – added the driver of car number 44 -. My pace, in the first and second sectors, is not even bad, but in the third I suddenly lose seven tenths. We need to work on this, in my opinion it can be the key to get back up”. Hamilton is aiming to regain a meaningful result after a series of nightmarish races: following fourth place in Austin, in fact, he did not go beyond two eighth places, in Mexico and Las Vegas. In Qatar, the race prior to the one to be run on Sunday, he did not finish in the points, finishing 12th on Sunday.

In the overall standings, Hamilton is in sixth position with 152 points, two ahead of his successor at Mercedes, Kimi Antonelli.
