A.C. Milan is always on the lookout for a central forward. The Leao’experiment as the starting nine is not going very well and, as is well known, Santiago Gimenez, also aided by a few too many injuries, is struggling to showcase his talent. The club would be making several evaluations to identify the right player to rely on. The’idea would be to make the splash during the January market, although, historically, it is never easy to score major signings during the winter window.

First and foremost, one must have the liquidity to go and sit at the tables that matter. The Rossoneri club would be waiting for the’right offer for Santiago Gimenez. There are rumors of interest from Sunderland. The English club could put a figure around 30 million euros in the pot. Should the Mexican accept and move to England, here is where the Diavolo would immediately move to find the right forward to replace him with. Many names are in play. Among them surely 32-year-old Niclas Fullkrug, currently under contract with West Ham.

The German national, just like Santiago Gimenez, is struggling with the Hammers. Changing teams and leagues could unlock him and bring him back to top levels (he has always done well with Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund.

Alternatively, watch out for the name of Jean-Philippe Mateta, a Crystal Palace striker whose contract expires in 2027. Negotiations to renew his deal are currently stalled and the Congolese-born French player’s agents are looking around for a solution. The Frenchman, this season, has already netted 7 goals in 14 games contributing to the London team’s sixth place in the Premier League standings. Everything, however, hinges on Santiago Gimenez’s decision. If the Mexican does not leave, nothing will change in the Rossoneri attack.
