Inter market, two targets to replace Yann Sommer
In all probability in the summer Inter will say goodbye to Yann Sommer: the experienced Swiss goalkeeper has an expiring contract and the chances of renewal are very close to zero. This season he has made several mistakes that have cost Inter dearly, and in the last match against Pisa came yet another duck: in minute 11 he completely misjudged the pass delivering the ball into the feet of Stefano Moreo who scored with a beautiful lob. Also on the second goal of the Tuscans Sommer has some responsibility.
Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have been looking for a new goalkeeper for some time and have been evaluating many names. After several skims, the targets have been reduced to two names: Emiliano Martinez and Guglielmo Vicario. The Argentine is linked to Aston Villa by a contract valid until 2029 but is looking around to try a new experience and it seems that his entourage has already had contact with some emissaries of Inter Milan to understand the feasibility of the transfer. On the other side there’s Vicario, an old acquaintance of our league.
The Udine-born extreme defender is not having a serene period at Tottenham and fans are not satisfied with his objectively rather erratic performance. Vicario still has two years left on his contract with Spurs but could convince himself to return to Italy to relaunch his career and establish himself in Nerazzurri colors. Raised in the youth ranks of Udinese, the star played for Fontanafredda, Venezia and Cagliari before moving to Empoli. With the Tuscans he showed off excellent performances that convinced Tottenham to buy him in 2023 for 18 million euros.
After the pyrotechnic comeback victory against Pisa, Cristian Chivu had this to say about Yann Sommer: “Although the approach was not bad, we scored a goal ourselves but the fault is mine, because I demand certain things from the goalkeeper and it is not Sommer’s fault. Then we pulled out some pride and continued to march on quality and intensity, managing to turn it around before the’halftime”.
The Inter people did not take Sommer’s mistake on Moreo well at all, and a huge debate arose on social media. There are also those who argue that Chivu should give more space to Josep MartÃnez: so far the Spaniard has collected just 4 appearances (2 in the league, 1 in the Italian Cup and 1 in the Italian Super Cup).
