An injury difficult to accept, especially because it came when he seemed to have the match in hand. Lorenzo Musetti exited the Australian Open in the worst possible way. The Italian dominated the first two sets against the eternal Nole Djokovic but, in the third set, suffered a physical problem, probably to the right adductor, that forced him to raise the white flag. In the post-match, the Carrarese explained what happened to him on the court.

They are images that hurt those coming from Melbourne
Lorenzo Musetti had the match in the bag with Novak Djokovic…
… and it was not just any match, for a variety of reasons…
… the winner, in fact, would have landed in the semifinals of the first Slam of the season…
… for Musetti, then, it would have been a very prestigious victory in the presence of an opponent who had beaten him almost every time
Unfortunately, however, all of a sudden the unimaginable happened…
… the Carrara tennis player began to experience severe pains…
… tried to get treatment for the muscle problem in his right thigh…
… but there'was nothing to be done and he had to raise the white flag…
… to pass the round was therefore the seasoned Slavic tennis player…
… a real stroke of luck for the outfielder, long the world’s No. 1 in tennis ranking
At the end of the match Djokovic was very sincere in commenting on the surprising ending of the challenge
"He deserved to win Lorenzo but he was really unlucky" he acknowledged with fair-play
For Lorenzo remains the'pride for again proving himself a phenomenon…
… coming off the field he apologized to the spectators present, a great gesture

“I felt the first discomfort already in the second set. I asked for the medical time-out to try to get better but the pain kept getting worse. There are no words to describe what I am feeling right now. I couldn&#8217t bandage it because the discomfort was too high, more or less at the height of the psoas muscle. I am sure I have an injury”, the words of a sad Lorenzo Musetti, almost in disbelief at what happened to him on the field.

Visibly disappointed to have thrown away the chance to win the first semifinal of his career at the Australian Open, Lorenzo Musetti added: “You never imagine winning with two sets to spare against Djokovic and then having to retire. It is a very painful feeling” his comment. To raise the white flag when you are up 2-0, in the set count, against Nole Djokovic, winner of the Australian Open as many as 10 times, hurts terribly and is definitely not easy to accept

.

This is not the first time Lorenzo Musetti has struggled with physical issues. Former tennis player Mats Wilander, now a popular pundit, said: “He&#8217s still quite young, maybe his physique still needs time to get stronger”.

What is clear is that now Lorenzo Musetti will have to take the best possible care in order to return in perfect physical condition and continue a season that is seeing him play a great role. It should be remembered that he has just achieved the best ranking in his career.
