N’Golo Kanté is officially a Fenerbahçe player, who can console themselves after the failure to land Davide Frattesi. The deal was unblocked on Tuesday evening (the market closes in Turkey on Friday), just over four months before the start of the World Cup. The French midfielder signed a contract until 2028. The French national (65 appearances and 2 goals) will not only star in the local league, as Fenerbahçe is still involved in the Europa League and will face Nottingham Forest in the playoffs.

Recently returned to the national team after a year’s absence, Kanté is clearly aiming to be on the list of Bleus who will fly for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Having moved to Arabia in July 2023 from Chelsea, Kanté won the league-cup double title with Al-Ittihad last season. He played 105 games in all competitions with the Saudi club, netting 10 goals and providing 11 assists.

There has been no shortage of twists and turns in Saudi Arabia these days: Karim Benzema is officially a new player for Al-Hilal. Having archived his experience with Al-Ittihad, the club with which he played the last few seasons, the former Ballon d’Or player has decided to change team, but staying in the rich Asian country, signing for another big name in the local league, led by’former Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, who can now count on a player with an infinite palmares and who 38 years old can still give goals and plays of a champion.

Although there had been talk of a possible return to Europe, with even Juventus among the interested clubs, the French center forward chose to stay in the Saudi Pro League, simply moving from Jeddah to Riyadh. An absolute heavyweight purchase for Al-Hilal, currently the league leaders ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr. With Benzema’s arrival, the Inzaghi-coached lineup is a strong candidate for the role of title favorite.
