The 26th day of Ligue 1 opens at 8:45 p.m. at the Velodrome, where Olympique Marseille hosts Auxerre’Auxerre with the goal of dislodging Lyon at least for one night, taking sole third place. Habib Beye’s team is coming off two consecutive wins and sees Champions League football, while the guests are looking for salvation points to climb out of the playout zone.

Marseille seems to have regained balance and confidence: two wins in a row have relaunched OM in the race for third place, which is worth direct qualification for the Champione League (in France, fourth place leads to the preliminaries), and the team has not lost at home against French opponents since January. Beye has provided stability, but the standings remain short and a misstep could call European ambitions into question.

On the other side is an Auxerre that is struggling to win, but has found a modicum of continuity in recent weeks: seven points have come in the last six matches, a path that keeps the salvation race alive. Away from home, moreover, Christophe Pelissier’s team is surprising, with three consecutive useful results and five goals scored in the last two away matches, numbers unhoped for the least prolific attack in the league.

Probable lineups

OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE (4-2-3-1): Rulli; Weah, Balerdi, Pavard, Palmieri; Kondogbia, Hojbjerg; Greenwood, Nwaneri, Paixao; Gouiri. All. Beye.

AUXERRE (4-4-2): Leon; Senaya, Diomande, Sierralta, Akpa; Casimir, Danois, Owusu, Oppegard; Mara, Loader. All. Pelissier.
