Genoa, salvation blow at home to a Verona closer and closer to Serie B

The 29th day of Serie A gives Genoa another important step toward salvation: the Rossoblù momentarily climb to +9 over the third-last thanks to a 2-0 success over Verona. The Grifone took advantage of yet another opaque performance by the Scaligeri and settled the game in the second half. Hellas started with more enterprise, buoyed by the enthusiasm for the victory against Bologna, and came close to taking the lead with Akpa-Akpro, who hit the post.

This was an isolated flash, however, as Genoa gradually took control of the match and tried to make themselves dangerous with Messias. In the second half Harroui hits the outside of the net and fuels the guests’ hopes, but in the 61st minute comes the episode that changes the match: Vitinha, who entered a few minutes ago, surprises a distracted Montipò with a conclusion from about thirty meters. Sammarco tried to react by switching to a trident with Sarr, but it was still Genoa that managed the pace.

In the final Martin serves Ostigard, who in the 86th minute signs 2-0 and his fifth Serie A goal of the season. The Rossoblù thus climb to 33 points, moving away from the relegation zone. Verona, on the other hand, remains second-last with 18 points and sees the specter of Serie B drawing ever closer. Meanwhile, the controversy after the 1-1 draw between Inter and Atalanta does not begin to subside: according to Inter supporters, the referee should not have validated Nikola Krstović’s goal because of an earlier foul by Ibrahim Sulemana against Denzel Dumfries, and, again according to the Biscione supporters’ point of view, a penalty for a foul by Giorgio Scalvini against Davide Frattesi is missing.

In the last minutes of the match, the Atalanta defender, in an attempt to sweep a ball from the Bergamo area, hit the opponent’s foot but referee Gianluca Manganiello ruled Scalvini’s intervention as regular.
