Jonathan Milan confirms himself as king in San Benedetto del Tronto. For the third consecutive year, the Italian sprinter raises his arms to the sky at the final finish line of the Tirreno-Adriatico. The Lidl-Trek Friulian thus finds stage success in the Corsa dei Due Mari thanks to a powerful sprint, taking his sixth victory of the season. The general classification, however, belongs to Isaac del Toro, who had already secured the Maglia Azzurra on Saturday.

In the first part of the race, three riders try to move the race: Mikel Xabier Azparren (Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Dries De Bondt (Jayco AlUla) and Roberto Carlos Gonzalez (Solution Tech NIPPO Rali). The peloton, however, concedes no space. On the climb, the pace set by an unleashed Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech) is very high and ends up crumbling the top group.

Following that, the fight is on for the flying finish. Visma | Lease a Bike works well and launches Matteo Jorgenson into bonus seconds, allowing him to take second overall at the expense of Giulio Pellizzari, who thus slips to third place. A very active Jayco AlUla then tries to revive the action with Alessandro Covi along with De Bondt again, but with the sprinters’ teams careful to control there is no room for new breakaways.

In the final also the Norwegian Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) tries the advance, but as expected everything is decided at the sprint (also thanks to a very long sprint by Filippo Ganna). However, Jasper Philipsen and Paul Magnier, who were involved in a crash with two kilometers to go, did not participate in the sprint.

Bound to start from a distance, Jonathan Milan nevertheless managed to resist his rivals’ comeback and took a splendid victory. Behind him finished Sam Welsford (INEOS Grenadiers), while third place went to Laurenz Rex (Soudal Quick-Step). Also in the top 10 was Giovanni Lonardi (Team Polti VisitMalta), ninth at the finish.
