The turnaround at Dinamo Sassari is official and was announced by Stefano Sardara: the president accepted the resignation of Marco Calvani, announced yesterday in a press conference, and promoted general manager Federico Pasquini as coach for the next two months. “We have changed two coaches with different philosophies and the problem is always the same – the words of the number 1 of the Italian champions – So, they are not the problem, but the team. We struggle to find the square, we melt away in the course of matches. We need to work on the mental aspect.”
Sardara explains how the decision was arrived at, “There were three viable paths: continue with Calvani, look for a new coach or entrust the team to the two assistants. Three solutions that are not viable individually, so we came to choose the fourth solution.” That is, to go for Pasquini: “Federico has a contract as GM until 2020 and will be back there in two months, because that is his role. Having already been a coach, knowing the environment and the players, he doesn’t need time, since there are only eight games left until the end of the championship. That’s why we chose him.”
A couple of months in which the goal is to win a playoff spot: “We’re putting our faces on it and trying to straighten out a season that started out crooked. Trying to bring home the new result.” To continue a path in the elite of Italian basketball, which has been underway for a few years and after the triumphs of last season: “We have grown over the years, we have obtained a certain place in Italian basketball and we want to consolidate it. Although we are certainly not Milan, in terms of budget and history.” Thanks to Calvani: “I would make the choice to get him again and thank him for the work he has done. With his resignation he wanted to give Dinamo a gift.” Now it’s Pasquini’s turn to try to lift up the Sardinians.
