Beijing 2022, Pietro Sighel and others in chorus: "Unique emotion"

“We are super proud of what we did,” Sighel’s words at the end of the relay.

An exciting, incredible, ‘heart-stopping’ bronze, as CONI President Giovanni Malagò called it. Pietro Sighel, Yuri Confortola, Tommaso Dotti and Andrea Cassinelli put in the trophy cabinet – before Arianna Fontana’s extraordinary silver medal – the 14th medal of the Italian Olympic expedition to Beijing 2022.

“We are super proud of what we did. We worked so hard, this is not a casual result. We had all the right cards and we managed to realize what has been our potential throughout the year. We did it at the best time, and that’s what counts,” Pietro Sighel began.

He was echoed by his teammates: “I’m so happy, I unloaded the emotion on the ice. We all did our best. There is so much work behind this performance, so many people contributed to this seal. A big hug for everyone,” said Tommaso Dotti, while Andrea Cassinelli emphasized how “All the sacrifices of a career paid off today in the final. Thanks to all those who watch us from home, to our teammates and to all those who support us.”

Finally, the emotion also told by Yuri Confortola: “This is the fruit of a work that started many years ago and finalized here. I have done so many Olympics collecting nothing except a few placings, and instead this year everything turned out the way it was supposed to. I don’t deny that it also took some luck, but this time the work was rewarded. This is the fruit of the work of so many people, I personally want to remember all the athletes who are at home, because we did so much work on the relay, and to succeed we needed to try with so many different people. Thanks to all of them, the next Olympics will be their time,” he concluded.
