Wimbledon, even Carlos Alcaraz fears Matteo Berrettini: admission
Another tennis bigwig admits he fears Matteo Berrettini.
Among the most anticipated faces at the upcoming Wimbledon tournament is surely Carlos Alcaraz, who has recovered from the elbow injury that struck him in early June. The absence of too many matches on grass, however, leads the Spanish prodigy to caution.
Alcaraz himself admitted as much at the Hurlingham Tennis Classics, where he lost to Frances Tiafoe. “For some people I’m also among the favorites, but if I have to be honest I think I’m not,” he said at the end of the match. “But I’m trying to work on improving my movements on grass and volleying. Moving in the best possible way will be crucial.”
Excluding his own name from the favorites for Wimbledon, Alcaraz instead threw in that of Matteo Berrettini. “He, Djokovic and Nadal are much better than me on grass. However, I want to try to enjoy this surface as much as possible, both now and in the future,” he concluded.
