Tour de France, Yves Lampaert first yellow jersey: burned Wout van Aert
Quick-Step’s Belgian wears yellow
Yves Lampaert is the first yellow jersey of the Tour de France 2022. In fact, the Belgian of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl managed to set the best time in the opening time trial of the Grande Boucle (13 km on the streets of Copenhagen, for an out-of-bounds start of the French race), thus earning the right to wear the symbol of supremacy first.
Anticipating the big favorites of the eve: other Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) was second at 5″, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) was third at 7″, while Filippo Ganna finished fourth, at 10″, penalized by a wheel problem.
Lampaert will have to defend the yellow jersey as early as tomorrow’s tricky 202-kilometer stage from Velje to Nyborg (still in Denmark). The race may be affected by weather conditions: already in today’s time trial, rain and wind created quite a few headaches for the riders.
