Jannik Sinner in quarters, Carlos Alcaraz bows out
Memorable victory by Jannik Sinner, who by imposing himself on Carlos Alcaraz qualified for the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
The South Tyrolean in the match between the two most promising young men on the world stage got off to a great start, imposing 6-1 in the first set.
The Italian number two also won the second set, with a score of 6-4.
In the third set, Sinner had two match points but did not take advantage of them. The Spaniard reopened the game by winning the tie-break.
In the fourth set, Sinner again held serve against his opponent who, however, did not give up and cancelled three more match points.
On the sixth chance, on his own serve, the South Tyrolean closed the score.
The final score was thus 6-1 6-4 6-7 (8) 6-3. The match lasted three hours and thirty-five minutes.
Sinner will now find one between Djokovic and Van Rijthoven.
