Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner’s pride after feat
Kudos to the great rival after the feat.
Jannik Sinner is enjoying his passage to the Wimbledon quarterfinals after a stunning four-set victory over Carlos Alcaraz (6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3). After the majestic performance on the grass in London, however, the South Tyrolean also wanted to dedicate important words to his prestigious opponent.
“Playing against someone like Carlos is a huge pleasure, especially in front of such an audience and in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Central Court,” Sinner confessed at the end of the match. “He is a very complicated opponent to face, but also an exquisite person. And I trembled when I lost the match point, but I had to go on and I did. I’m very happy with how I was able to hold on.”
There was a moment when Sinner feared he might not make it: “At the beginning of the fourth set I felt I was struggling. But in the end I got through the round, and I’m really happy. I also hope in the quarters to be able to play good tennis, because the Wimbledon tournament is important and this was also a very important match.”
In particular, Sinner is proud of his performance on a surface theoretically not suited to his characteristics. “I wasn’t playing well on grass, but I won my first match there and improved. I didn’t expect to do so well, and the crowd is helping me, too.”
