Cantù announces point guard of the future
Acqua S.Bernardo Pallacanestro Cantù has announced that it has signed, on loan from Reyer Venezia, athlete Nicola Berdini, a 185-centimeter, 80-pound, 18-year-old point guard, a native of Civitanova Marche, Macerata province. Class of 2003, 19 years old next Dec. 4, Berdini is back from a season with Basket Ravenna colors, with which he totaled – despite his young age – 39 appearances, 199 points and 44 assists in 658′ total; 5.1 points and 1.1 assists in 17′ his season averages. With the Ravenna team he reached the semifinals of the last playoff edition, meeting Cantù as an opponent. An excellent individual year for the young outside player from the Marche region, culminating with the recent call-up to the Under 20 National Team for the European Championships of the category to be held, from July 16 to 24, in Podgorica, Montenegro.
A very quick playmaker in the open court, a good shooter and decisive in penetrations in the area, but also generous in scoring, Berdini is certainly among the best prospects in the A2 Series championship; a young man with evident preparation behind him and good technique.
A Reyer Venezia school, Berdini trained in the Orogranata youth academy, with which he played, for two consecutive years (2018-2020), the Adidas Next Generation Tournament, or EuroLega for U18 teams. In his first participation he played an average of 24′, scoring over 14 points per game; the following year he managed to almost double his figures, finishing the prestigious European event with 22.5 points, 3 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 37′ of average time on the parquet. Berdini’s basketball journey in the senior leagues, however, began two years ago in Biella. With the Piedmontese team he played in the 2020-’21 Serie A2 championship, playing 31 games and putting together 4.7 points and 1.3 assists in 18′ average. In the summer of 2021 the aforementioned experience in Ravenna, where he has important peaks during the season, specifically in the Supercup and the clock phase. In 3 Supercup games he scores an average of 7.7 points in 20′ on the parquet per game. In the 4 clock phase challenges he manages to do even better, scoring 8.5 points in an average of 21′. Against Acqua S.Bernardo Cantù he played particularly well in Game 3 of the playoff semifinals, scoring an impressive 9 points in just 14′; before that, however, he scored 8 points in 29′ in the challenge played at PalaBancoDesio for the last round of the clock phase.
“We insert in the roster a young guy with a lot of toughness, in the positive sense of the word of course. He is a player who certainly has ample room for growth and we will try to get the best out of him,” said Brianza coach Meo Sacchetti about Berdini.
