Tour de France, Pidcock’s feat at Alpe d’Huez. Vingegaard remains in yellow
Triumph on the iconic rise for the Briton class of 1999
Thomas Pidcock is the winner of the 12th stage of the Tour de France, which took the Grande Boucle caravan from Briançon to the uphill finish at Alpe d’Huez. The Briton of the Ineos Grenadiers, class of 1999, triumphed solo, ahead of South African Meintjes by 48 seconds and Chris Froome by 2’06”, who was back at a high level on one of the most important climbs in international cycling.
Tenth place, at the finish, for a very good Giulio Ciccone, who only in the finale gave up a few seconds to the small group of yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard, who held on alongside his rival in the general classification, Tadej Pogacar.
The Dane of Jumbo-Visma thus retains a 2’22” lead over the Slovenian of UAE Team Emirates, thus retaining the symbol of the lead after the two-day high mountain race.
