Marcell Jacobs, for Stephen Mei is the right decision

“Jacobs showed remarkable courage. He strongly wanted to try to honor the commitment, he tried until the last moment. This for me is a great demonstration of seriousness and attachment to the blue jersey.”

Federal President Stefano Mei thus comments on the news of Marcell Jacobs’ forfeit, just hours after the announcement.

“The life of an athlete – Mei’s words again – is made up of positive and negative moments. And even a small problem can impede the performance of such a sophisticated machine as an athlete’s body. It is all too obvious that I regret, the fact that I will not see Jacobs on the track again. But I certainly agree with the decision not to risk it, to avoid permanently compromising the season.”
