Matteo Berrettini, new forfeit: here’s why
Matteo Berrettini stops as a precautionary measure after loss to Ruud in Gstaad
Stop for Matteo Berrettini after the Gstaad tournament, which saw him lose in the final to Casper Ruud. The Roman tennis player has made his forfeit official for the Kitzbuhel tournament in Austria, where he was listed in the draw.
The Italian’s forfeit was decided for precautionary reasons, ahead of the crucial North American tour: Berrettini wants to move up in the race for the Nitto Finals at the end of the year in Turin, and hopes to prepare his physique at its best for the upcoming commitments in Montreal, Cincinnati and for the Us Open, scheduled for late August. Berrettini is currently 12th in the special ranking for the Finals, which is accessed by the top eight.
