They have known each other all their lives, have always been rivals, with sometimes not easy relationships.

Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen are the two main candidates to win the 2022 Formula 1 world championship, with the former having a great start to the championship only to be overtaken by the latter. There has been no shortage of on-track battles between the two, sometimes bitter ones, yet their relationship seems more relaxed than in the past.

This was revealed by the Ferrari driver himself, during an interview granted to the ‘BBC’. “We’ve known each other since we were kids,” Leclerc recalled about Verstappen. “Right now our relations are normal, and mutual respect is very high. In the past we had more problems, but we overcame them and now everything is fine.”

Leclerc then analyzed the current standings situation with Verstappen: “He has an 80-point lead and we are not that close in the championship. But when we are in a tussle I know he will not concede anything to me, and the same goes for me. But the fact that we don’t give an inch when we duel on the track is the thing I love most about Formula 1. I then have always driven aggressively, and to see that I can still be that makes me really happy.”
