The Verbania native will not compete in the time trial that will award the European title in the specialty

Filippo Ganna will not compete in the time trial that will award the European title of the specialty in Munich. In fact, the rumors that have emerged in recent days found official confirmation on Monday, when the selectors of the various Italian national teams involved in the multidisciplinary continental event included the Verbania native’s name in the list of riders chosen for the road race and not in the time trial. The idea is to flank Giacomo Nizzolo with two fast riders like Ganna and Jonathan Milan to pull the sprint in case of a bunch finish.

“We have chosen the men best suited to a fast course with about 800 meters of elevation gain,” the technical commissioner of the Italian selection involved in the road race, Daniele Bennati, told Federciclismo channels. “My selection was based on a number of parameters: the characteristics, the results obtained during the year and the races that preceded the continental commitment such as the Tour de France, the Tour of Poland, the Vuelta Burgos. We opted for the most fit guys.”

The summoned riders for the European road race:

Alberto Dainese – Team DSM
Filippo Ganna – Ineos Grenadiers
Matteo Trentin – UAE Team Emirates
Jonathan Milan – Bahrain Victorius
Giacomo Nizzolo – Israel Premier Tech
Luca Mozzato – B#38;B Hotel – Ktm
Jacopo Guarnieri – Groupama FDJ
Filippo Baroncini – Trek Segafredo

Time trial summonses:

Mattia Cattaneo – Quick Step Alpha Vinyl Team
Matteo Sobrero – Bike Exchange Jayco
