On the last day of finals at the European Multisport Championships in Monaco, Italy’s rowing with the four medals won today (1 gold – 2 silver – 1 bronze), adding to yesterday’s five, reaches nine medals (4 gold – 2 silver – 3 bronze) and third place in the medal table for nations behind Great Britain (6-3-1) and Romania (5-0-3). As for today’s competitions, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions Valentina Rodini (Fiamme Gialle) and Federica Cesarini (Fiamme Oro/SC Gavirate) in the women’s Light Weights doubles won the bronze medal at the end of a hard-fought race from start to finish with Ireland, fourth, which tried to overpower the Azzurri, who, however, reacted and finished behind newly crowned European champions Great Britain and France, second and veteran of the Olympic silver medal right behind the Azzurri. The men’s Light Weights double of Olympic bronze medalists in the specialty Pietro Willy Ruta (Fiamme Oro) and Stefano Oppo (Carabinieri), on the other hand, held their own against Ireland, champions at Tokyo 2020, for more than half of the race, and only eventually surrendered by finishing behind them and winning silver ahead of Switzerland, third.

Silver in the men’s individual Light Weights also went to Gabriel Soares (Navy), who led the race in the early stages, engaging in a toe-to-toe with Greece in the final, desisting only in the last few meters and thus winning the silver that confirmed last year’s position. The only gold medal of the day came from the women’s lightweight foursome of Giulia Mignemi (SC Aetna), Paola Piazzolla (Dibi Rowing), Silvia Crosio (SC Amici del Fiume) and Arianna Noseda (Fiamme Rosse), who dominated the race, finishing ahead of Germany. At the foot of the podium, fourth, the women’s eight, of Linda De Filippis, Alice Codato (SC Gavirate), Veronica Bumbaca (Fiamme Oro/CUS Torino), Elisa Mondelli (SC Moltrasio), Laura Meriano (Carabinieri/SC Garda Salò), Silvia Terrazzi (SC Pontedera), Aisha Rocek (Carabinieri/SC Lario), Giorgia Pelacchi (Fiamme Rosse/SC Lario) and Alessandra Faella (CUS Torino) at the helm, and the four with PR3 Mixed of Luca Conti, Greta Elizabeth Muti, Ludovica Tramontin, Tommaso Schettino and Raissa Scionico at the helm; fifth the women’s Lightweight single of Stefania Buttignon (Fiamme Oro/SC Timavo), and sixth the men’s Senior double of Simone Venier (Fiamme Gialle) and Davide Mumolo (Fiamme Oro/SC Elpis). In the only B final of the day, Matteo Sartori (Fiamme Gialle) placed fifth (11th overall) in the men’s singles. Next international event is the World Absolute Championships scheduled in Racice (Czech Republic) from September 18-25.
