F1, Stefano Domenicali tough on Germany and Russia
Formula 1 CEO Domenicali definitely closes the door on Moscow, and slams the Germans
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali in an interview with Sport Bild closed to a return of the German Grand Prix to the circus, at least for the time being: “We cannot cover all the costs of a grand prix. It’s a mystery to me how you can’t build a business around a race nowadays.”
Despite the many German drivers and teams that have made their mark on the circus (Mercedes has won eight manufacturers’ titles in a row, Vettel, Rosberg and Michael Schumacher 12 World Championships in three), Germany thus remains without a race of its own in F1. “If Germany can create business in the future, we will race there again. If I don’t make a call, I don’t hear from anyone from Germany. People talk, but in the end you need facts.”
Door totally closed to Russia after the invasion of Ukraine: “I always say never say never , but in this case I can promise. We will have no more negotiations with Russia. They were paying crazy amounts of money, but there will be no more running there: there are things that are non-negotiable.”
