European Championships, two Azzurri to medal in the 3000 steeplechase
European Championships, silver and bronze for Italy
Two Italians are on the podium of the 3000 steeplechase at the European Championships in Munich: Roman Ahmed Abdelwahed is silver with 8:22.35, Sicilian Osama Zoghlami is bronze (8:23.44) after a race all on the attack for the Italian trio completed by the other Zoghlami twin, Ala, who finishes in seventh place (8:27.82).
Gold goes to Finland’s Topi Raitanen who runs away in the last two hundred meters.
That brings the Italian haul from Monaco to 9 when there are still two days of competition left: 2 golds, 2 silvers, 5 bronzes. On the Olympiastadion evening, made damp by a light rain, there was also Dalia Kaddari’s seventh place in the 200 (23.19/+0.4), Ayomide Folorunso’s eighth in the 400hs final (55.91), Gaia Sabbatini’s ninth place in the 1500 (4:06.04) to go with Ludovica Cavalli’s 12th place (4:10.93), Ottavia Cestonaro’s 10th place in the triple (13.48/-1.0). Of note was Simone Barontini’s move into the finals in the 800 with 1:48.51 in a tactical race.
