Italbasket is done. Gianmarco Pozzecco has chosen the 12 Azzurri who will play tomorrow’s game against Georgia in Brescia and most importantly take part in EuroBasket 2022. The CT has authorized Amedeo Tessitori to leave the gathering, effectively making the last choice on the roster at his disposal: Spissu, Mannion, Biligha, Tonut, Gallinari, Melli, Fontecchio, Ricci, Baldasso, Polonara, Pajola, and captain Datome.
These are Pozzecco’s words on Tessitori’s exclusion: “I’m sorry. So much, because I was lucky enough to know an extraordinary man, before being a player. An athlete of the highest level, which made me undecided about the choice until the last moment. We decided to bring in an extra outfielder, which is why the decision fell on Amedeo.” The CT then continued his speech by recalling the difficulty of preparing for two important events such as the World Cup Qualification and the European Championship: “It is complicated to be able to optimize the time available and prepare delicate matches such as those that await us in the near future. I am sorry not to see Shengelia on the field, although some people may think that her injury will benefit us. I don’t think so.”
