F1, drivers market: frozen Mick Schumacher and Ferrari
Haas team principal Steiner pushes Schumacher away, “Ricciardo? I don’t rule him out.”
Haas has yet to define the driver who will flank Kevin Magnussen from 2023, and is at the center of market rumors. The team principal of the U.S. stable, Gunther Steiner, to Sky did not rule out any options, and he did not close the door to a driver who is not from the Ferrari Driver Academy like Mick Schumacher, Robert Schwartzman and Antonio Giovinazzi: “The list is much longer, there are other drivers who are on the market. There are not only these three. Ricciardo? I’m not excluding anyone.”
The Australian will leave McLaren at the end of the season, a year early: “Daniel just left McLaren, let’s see how things go. Gene Haas will come for the races in Holland and Monza, so I will have time to talk to him in person. We are in no hurry ourselves.”
Giovinazzi will have a free practice session at Monza: “If we were to use him as a back-up driver at least he would have already tested the car on the track. For us he is a third driver who can test the car and see if he discovers something we don’t know. Confirmation of Schumacher? In Canada, England and Austria he did very well. Now let’s see what results he does. Let’s see who is the best.”
