Crazy Fabio Fognini: what a feat at the US Open!

In his US Open debut Fabio Fognini first sent shivers down the spines of Italian fans, then recovered and won against Aslan Karatsev with a score of 1-6 5-7 6-4 6-1 6-4, achieved after more than three and a half hours of play.

The Russian starts very strong and puts the Italian in great difficulty, who is dismissed in the first set after just 26 minutes. The second fraction also starts badly, then Fognini recovers and leads 5-5. Karatsev, however, is adept at not panicking.

Tough fight in the third set: the Italian fights tooth and nail against a solid opponent who is adept at taking advantage of every chance. The 6-4 win gives an extra boost to Fognini, who in the fourth set flies on the wings of enthusiasm and secures the partial with a dry 6-1. Tension rises but Fognini holds his nerves and triumphs in the fifth set.
