Matteo Berrettini: “I feel good, I have improved my backhand.”
Matteo Berrettini looks forward to his Us Open round of 16 match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina: the Italian feels he has grown a lot in condition and in his game. “I feel good,” he told Eurosport after the match against Murray. “I knew it would be a great fight with Andy, as it always is when you face him. I felt I was playing better, but he is a great champion and knows how to handle different situations. In the end, I was very happy to have reached the victory and to have passed the round.”
Berrettini highlights growth in his game and in some fundamentals, “If I had kept doing what I was doing, I was sure more chances would have come. The backhand? I think it’s an important weapon some times, I improved it a lot so I need to use it more. In the important moments, I played well on that side. Overall, I think I played a great match.”
