Fabio Fognini recalls when he and Roger Federer met the Queen of England.
Fognini opens memory book
Fabio Fognini’s commentary about Roger Federer’s announced farewell to tennis could not be missed.
“Everyone remembers him not only for what he did, but for his elegance and what he is,” says the Ligurian. For the sport in general, for us, for me, it’s a big blow: he’s an icon of the sport. I will miss seeing him play. I’m glad I lived through this 15-year era where I crossed paths with four phenomena. I still remember the advice he and Rafa gave me at the Laver Cup in 2019. Another anecdote: when I played on the Wimbledon Central against him, they warned me that the Queen was there that day. I told them go ahead, tell me what to do I don’t know how to behave.”
“When I hear from him I will wish him the best of luck in his new adventure, surely family will be his priority. I hope as a fan and as a colleague that he stays in our sport,” Fognini concluded.
