Roger Federer, new details surface on Swiss man’s retirement
On Thursday Roger Federer announced his retirement from playing tennis. Severin Luthi, a member of the Swiss’s technical staff, elaborated, “He could not make enough progress physically because of knee trouble. He is 41 years old and facing such a demanding Tour as professional tennis, with more than 1,500 matches played, was not possible. His retirement, therefore, was dictated by a combination of these factors.”
“He will try to play, maybe in doubles. He wants to be part of the team actively. It will be great to watch him for the last time and I think the reaction of the public will be fantastic,” he said. Eurosport reports.
Plenty of people have spoken honeyed words for the Swiss champion. Others included Serena Williams: “I wanted to find the best way to say goodbye to you since you made tennis history and you did it perfectly, your wonderful career is proof of that. I have always admired you and will continue to do so: our paths are similar. You have inspired millions and millions of people, including me, and no one will ever forget you. I greet you with great emotion and look forward to what you will do in your future. Welcome to the retired club and thank you for all you have done.”
