They still speak Norwegian at the cycling world championships in Australia.

After Foss’s unexpected success among the elites, on the second day of racing, still dedicated to time trials, Soren Waerenskjold, a 22-year-old from Mandal, a small town in southern Norway, won among the U23s. A professional since 2021, last year he won two stages of the Tour de l’Avenir and won silver at the U23 European U23 time trial in Trento.

The Scandinavian edged out Belgium’s Alec Segart (by 16″34) and Britain’s Leo Hayter (by 24″16). Lorenzo Milesi, first of the Italians, finished 10th, while Italian specialty champion Davide Piganzoli was 16th.
