Fabio Cannavaro, Italy coaching journey starts from Benevento

After the Saudi and Chinese experiences, one of the heroes of Germany 2006 is trying his hand in Italy.

It had been in the air for a few days – the rumor had been circulating even before Fabio Caserta’s exoneration – and on Wednesday afternoon the official announcement came: Fabio Cannavaro is Benevento’s new coach.

The Giallorossi club made the announcement through a post on its Twitter profile, accompanied by a statement on its website.

“Benevento Calcio is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr. Fabio Cannavaro as head coach of the first team. The coach will be presented to the press tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 22, starting at 5 p.m., at Palazzo Paolo V in Benevento, with reserved seats,” the club’s note reads.

After his experiences as coach of Al-Nassr, in Saudi Arabia, and those on the benches of Tianjin Quanjian and Guangzhou, in China – where he also covered, on an interim basis, the role of coach of the national team – the former Ballon d’Or begins his first adventure as coach in Italy.
