Italy at the foot of the podium
The Maglia Azzurra performed well in the Motocross of Nations, held in RedBud (United States), giving excellent feedback and concrete hopes for the future. Nine-time World Champion Antonio Cairoli, 21-year-old Mattia Guadagnini and 19-year-old Andrea Adamo took to the track. Our lineup finished fourth behind the U.S., France and Australia, ahead of great teams such as Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands. Antonio Cairoli and Andrea Adamo finished the first moto (MXGP + MX2) in 7th and 15th place, respectively. Tony remained consistently in the same position, behind Jorge Prado and ahead of Hunter Lawrence; Adamo fought for the top 10 until the middle of the race. Home rider Eli Tomac secured the victory.
In the second heat (MX2 + Open), Mattia Guadagnini left everyone behind in the first six laps and was third under the checkered flag; Adamo rode a comeback heat from 18th position on the first pass to 15th place overall. Australia’s Jett Lawrence took the win.
In race 3 (MXGP + Open) Antonio Cairoli finished 9th, a position he occupied from the fifth of the fifteen laps completed. Mattia Guadagnini crashed in the early stages finishing 19th. Frenchman Maxime Renaux won the heat.
The Maglia Azzurra scored 49 points. The United States won at home by 16 lengths doing better than France (23) and Australia (26).
