Reyer Venezia, Marco Spissu not in hiding
Marco Spissu has only winning on his mind
On Tuesday the two new signings of Reyer Venezia were presented at Taliercio: Marco Spissu and Amedeo Tessitori.
The Sardinian basketball player immediately clarified the goal of the season: “The first impact is super positive: the company is of the highest level, from the staff, to teammates, to the whole environment. It is a company that aims high, that aims to win: we cannot hide behind a finger. That’s what we are here for, we want to try. I have been here practically a week and my impressions are really good: there is everything we need to do well, so I thank the club for giving me this chance.
We really want to do well, also thinking about the many fans and especially this year for the 150th anniversary of the club. Now we have the road open in front of us, we have to work a lot, but there are really good preconditions to do well and so I am happy to be here.
With Reyer in scudetto finals we are 1-1, since with Casalpusterlengo’s youth I won the tricolor but then Reyer made up for it, beating my Sassari in the final: we hope to win the third together. Surely mine was a choice dictated by the ambitions of the club and it also fell on De Raffaele, because he is a super prepared coach, who made a very good impression on me playing against us and even more so when I met him at Taliercio live. However, I never had any doubts about coming to Reyer. The ambition is high, we are not hiding, but let’s not put more pressure on ourselves than we already have. We have to work calmly: the roster is there, the group is great, the staff is there, the society is there: so it’s just up to us to prove ourselves on the court.”
Marco then went on to talk about his last season in Russia: “From Kazan I definitely brought with me so many experiences, both on and off the court. It was really a tough year, but at the same time exciting. I saw a completely different culture from what we have here although it is clear that basketball is the same: only coaches and method change. And then it is clear that playing the Euroleague is a really beautiful and exciting experience because every game is a final to be played with blood in your eyes. So in my own small way I think I can bring experience and enthusiasm here as well; I look forward to being able to make that contribution to the team. To deserve the Euroleague we have to prove it first of all on the court, winning the EuroCup, but that would be great: that’s the goal, although it won’t be easy. Making comparisons with my previous teams now, after only one week and two trainings, it seems a bit early. The roster is strong, the names are really good.
I think we have to take something out of ourselves to put it to the team-that’s the key to winning. They all seem like really good guys to me, willing to do that.”
Finally, Azure stressed his total willingness to wear the orogranata jersey: “Obviously, I don’t have positive memories, of Reyer as an opponent: losing a final was not easy. They said all kinds of things to me, as they should be sportingly speaking. What you see from the outside, though, is a super, super organized, winning society, which speaks for itself. But looking ahead, I didn’t think twice when the opportunity came to come and play here. And I will try to repeat every time I take the field the great performance I had this summer in the national team against Serbia-a day I will always remember, even as I look ahead now. And in my future is Reyer.”
