Roma beats Inter at San Siro: Dybala and Smalling sign the comeback
For the Nerazzurri, a goal cancelled and a crossbar
Roma beat Inter 2-1 at the San Siro in the eighth day of Serie A. An important result for the Giallorossi, who remain four points behind Napoli while the Nerazzurri slip to -8.
In the match of Jose Mourinho’s return to the San Siro (with the coach, however, unable to sit on the bench due to disqualification) it was Inter who started well and went in on goal, in the 10th minute, with Edin Dzeko: the former’s goal was, however, cancelled out by Var, due to an offside position of the Bosnian himself.
The Nerazzurri’s pressure bore fruit, however, in the 30th minute: Federico Dimarco, author a few days ago of goal number 1,500 in the national team’s history, also scored in the club’s jersey, bringing Inter to 1-0. Roma, however, did not flinch and took nine minutes to equalize: an assist from Spinazzola and a first-time finish from Dybala, on which Handanovic failed to intervene effectively.
In the second half, which was played openly, Inter came close to taking the lead in the 63rd minute, when Calhanoglu’s spot-kick hit the crossbar, but it was Roma that struck again, this time decisively: Pellegrini’s cross for Chris Smalling’s header, the Englishman made it 2-1 and Roma were ahead in the 76th minute.
Despite pressing in the last quarter of an hour plus recovery, Roma held on: hugely important the Giallorossi’s success, redeeming the pre-match loss at home against Atalanta.
