Adrien Rabiot reignites in Champions League, Juventus knocks out Maccabi Haifa
Champions League, Juventus-Maccabi Haifa 3-1
After defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica, Juventus finally moved up the Champions League Group H standings, beating Maccabi Haifa 3-1: a result that allows Massimiliano Allgri’s men to get back in the running for qualification for the round of 16, which would have been almost irreparably compromised without the three points.
Juve immediately confirmed the good impressions it had already given in the league against Bologna, although it took 35 minutes to realize the lead, thanks to Angel Di Maria’s perfect feed that found Adrien Rabiot ready, who was good at getting past Cohen for the 1-0 lead.
The double came at the beginning of the second half, after just under five minutes: again an assist from Di Maria this time for Dusan Vlahovic, who after getting unblocked in the league also rekindled in Europe, signing the goal that seemed to close the match.
After a goal cancelled for offside to Vlahovic (64′), however, Maccabi frightened Juve with Dean David, who was able to shorten the distance in the 75th minute, but Rabiot ended his night of grace with the goal in the 83rd minute that finally closed the accounts.
