Motomondiale says goodbye to a big man: dead Phil Read
Phil Read died
The world of motorcycling loses another of its history-making riders: Phil Read has died. He was born on Jan. 1, 1939, and had been ill for some time, reports from across the Channel report.
In his not short career he won the world championship title seven times between 125 (one), 250 (four, all with Yamaha) and 500 (two, in 1973 and 1974, both times riding an MV Agusta). He often rivaled Giacomo Agostini, with whom there was no shortage of friction.
