F1, Haas: Mick Schumacher disappointed Gunther Steiner
Haas team principal commented on Mick Schumacher’s accident
Gunther Steiner, team principal of Haas, spoke to ‘F1TV’ at the end of the first day of free practice at Japan’s Suzuka circuit. The U.S. team had to deal with Mick Schumacher’s accident during the first session, which prevented him from taking to the track in the second.
“It’s a disappointment. We had gone out to do a start simulation to collect data for Sunday, and then on the return lap, Mick went aquaplaning and crashed, heavily damaging the car. The whole front end is broken, but we also have to change the whole chassis because we are not sure whether there is a crack or not, and you can’t take chances with the chassis. Maybe we could have gone out in PL2 for 10 minutes, but it is not important. It is better to be 100 percent sure that the car is in good condition for tomorrow,” explained the South Tyrolean executive.
