Nils Liedholm: son Carlo explains the differences between his AC Milan and Roma
Nils Liedholm, on October 8, would have turned 100 years old.
His son Carlo recalled him with Il Messaggero. “Milan gave him so much. He wore the Rossoneri jersey for 12 seasons. He lived with those colors the best of his playing career. In Milan he also began his path as a coach and won the star scudetto,” he recounted.
“Rome, however, managed to love him the most,” he added. “Those five formidable years, from 1979 to 1984, changed the history of the club and marked Dad’s life. I can never forget the night of the penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool in the Champions Cup final. The most bitter day in Father’s sports history. He came home without a word. He had touched the sky with one finger: when will it ever happen again for Roma to play a Champions Cup final in its own stadium? My father already had the agreement to return to Milan, but he wanted to write one last page of memorable history with Roma.”
