Vincenzo Nibali, the Shark’s salute: “I enjoyed it.”
The Tour of Lombardy was Vincenzo Nibali’s last race: ‘Fantastic crowd’
Vincenzo Nibali ended his career with the Giro di Lombardia: at the end of the race, the Shark said he was satisfied. “It was a very fast race, run from start to finish with a very high pace. I enjoyed the race and the crowd, which was fantastic: the legs came up to the Civiglio climb, where if you are not perfect you pay.”
Nibali, who had a long talk with Alejandro Valverde, also on his last day as a pro, was not particularly moved: “I’ve had a chance to unload emotion all year. Today I am happy despite the result, to win it or do well you have to be at the top. I was a few years ago, to date I am happy like this,” he told Rai.
On his possible heirs in Italy: “There are young people who are growing, but for stage races you have to wait a bit.” Among the most important laurels won in Nibali’s career are a Tour de France, two Giro d’Italia, a Vuelta of Spain, a Milan-San Remo and two Giri di Lombardia.
