Champions, Juventus sinks: Maccabi Haifa wins, Di Maria gets hurt
Maccabi Haifa-Juventus 2-0
A bad night. It’s hard to describe Juventus’ trip to Israel any other way, with Maccabi Haifa winning 2-0 and Massimiliano Allegri having to deal with another no small headache, Angel Di Maria’s injury.
The match immediately went uphill for the Bianconeri team, on the pitch in a pink uniform with blue borders: after not even seven minutes, in fact, Omer Atzili awkwardly impacted – with his back – the ball crossed by Cornud and mocked a Szczesny who seemed uncertain in his attempt to intervene.
Not enough of a disadvantage, on 24 minutes comes the other key moment: Di Maria feels a pull on his right thigh and is unable to continue, leaving space for Milik. The Argentine will have to undergo routine instrumental examinations to verify the nature of the injury and the impact on upcoming matches.
Juve seemed shaken by the negative episode and left the field to an inspired Maccabi, which doubled in the 42nd minute: it was Atzili again who scored, at the conclusion of a quick team restart.
In the second half, Allegri tries to change the face of his team with the entries of Kostic, Locatelli, Kean and Miretti in place of McKennie, Paredes, Danilo and Alex Sandro: the result, however, does not change, Maccabi controls and conquers the first three points of the European season, joining in the standings precisely the bianconeri, whose path in the Champions League now seems compromised. Two victories against Psg and Benfica will be needed to continue hoping.
