Volandri, admission on Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini
“Injuries have affected Sinner and Berrettini’s season, taking someone to the Finals will not be easy.”
The season is reaching its final stages, and Davis Cup national team captain Filippo Volandri in an interview with Corriere dello Sport analyzed the current situation of the Azzurri. Unlike last year, the two spearheads of the movement, Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner, are unlikely to be in Turin for the Atp Finals.
“We are happy, pleased and proud of how this season has gone as well. We are trying to bring an Italian presence to the Finals and it will not be easy. Have the injuries affected? Yes, but Jannik has confirmed that he is growing steadily, and even Matteo when he is well can perform like a true champion.”
Italy made it to the top 8 in the Davis Cup: “We are well, after Bologna we talked to each other and shared views and opinions. It remains a long-term path that has just begun. The doubles? We have to rely on our two champions, Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli. They are very strong and this helps the singles players to go on the court because they feel more relaxed. Then, of course, time passes for everyone and we will need alternatives but right now this is our team.”
