Lorenzo Musetti wants to steal the spot from Matteo Berrettini or Jannik Sinner
Lorenzo Musetti qualified for the semifinals in Florence: hit best ranking, but his goal is the Davis Cup
Lorenzo Musetti with a sumptuous performance folded 6-3, 6-2 the U.S. Mackenzie McDonald, clinching the semifinals of the Atp 250 tournament in Florence.
Thanks to this success, the Azzurro, who is ending the season on the rise, will get his career-best ranking of world number 24 on Monday. At the press conference, Musetti confessed that he has another goal: to be a singles player in Malaga in the Davis Cup, given the current problems of Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini, who are far from their best form.
“I would definitely like to play, but that will be the captain’s decision, made in consultation with everyone. We will see who will be healthy at the end of the season, I will have to deserve the place. Right now still Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner are superior and better than me.”
But Musetti feels he is clearly growing: “The thing that makes me most proud is to be professional off the court as well-I am working a lot on this aspect. I have grown a lot physically in the last few months. I couldn’t say exactly what percentage I’m up to, but we’ll keep working to improve.”
