Ronaldo confesses his drama: “In treatment for two and a half years”
Former Inter Milan striker Ronaldo in depression: “I’m doing therapy, it’s a little better now”
Former Inter Milan striker Ronaldo confessed his depression in an interview with Marca: “Yes, I’m doing therapy now. It’s been two and a half years and I also understand much better what I felt before. I come from a generation where you were thrown into the fray and had to cope as best you could without the slightest chance to ask for help.”
“I look back and see that yes, we were exposed to very, very great mental stress and without any preparation for it. Also because there was no concern for the mental health of the players,” the former Phenomeno explained.
“Today they are prepared much more, they get the medical care they need even to face the day, and the players are studied more: the profiles of each one, how they react, how they should react…. In my time there was none of that. It has been known for a lifetime that soccer can be a source of great stress and have a huge weight in the rest of a footballer’s existence,” the Brazilian forward’s words.
“Many, of course, went through terrible times, even depression, because of lack of privacy, lack of freedom…. It is true that the problems were very obvious, but the solutions were not immediately available.”
