Perugia, Silvio Baldini announces resignation: ‘Too much selfishness’
A farewell after a painful home knockout, complete with a home crowd protest.
Silvio Baldini has decided to leave the Perugia bench. In fact, the coach of the Umbrian club has declared in a press conference that he intends to submit his resignation after Südtirol’s 2-1 loss at Curi. “Out of respect for myself, this adventure is over,” he said.
Perugia remains last in Serie B, with only 4 points in the standings. Baldini has collected three defeats in as many matches, characterized by six goals conceded. “This group is made up of great guys,” he said, “but the family is not there. Everyone thinks for himself, and I’ve seen a lot of things I don’t like. Also a lot of superficiality.”
“I am not in a position to help Perugia, so I don’t want to put them in trouble. I thank the fans for the affection they have always shown, and also the president and the company. I am sorry, but I don’t consider myself able to help them. I cannot play for the result with my head and emotions, nor can I see long-term things with my heart. The boys are great, but selfishness prevails. I think I made a wrong choice,” Baldini concluded.
