MotoGP, out of the top 10 after FP2: Pecco Bagnaia’s admission
The self-criticism is there, but so is the determination to rectify the mistakes made.
Pecco Bagnaia closes Friday’s free practice at Sepang outside the top 10, with a Q2 still to be conquered. In fact, the Ducati centaur was not enough the second time in the second free practice, conditioned by rain after he preferred to “hide” in the morning. And to the microphones of ‘Sky Sports’ he admitted that the strategy could have been different.
Bagnaia, however, started from the melee with Marc Marquez, third at the end of the day: “There was a bit of overtaking and counter-overtaking. In my opinion it was fun, then when it all started to work I just saw everyone going away. But at the beginning, in the wet, I struggled a little bit. The mistake was what we made in the morning, not getting into the top 10. It affected that more than the bad luck related to the weather.”
“We decided not to do time attack and I made a mistake on the last lap of the last run, going long in the corner – added Bagnaia -. I’m out of the top 10 by 3 thousandths, but in any case I think we did a good job already this morning. Also good in the afternoon in the wet, because already on the second run we went better. We just have to figure out why I keep not having that feeling in the wet that I had last year.”
“On the last lap I lost two tenths in Turn 9-10. Without that mistake we would have already been in like that, but it doesn’t matter. Then in the afternoon we would have struggled to bring a time attack, it wouldn’t have worked,” Bagnaia then explained at the end of his analysis.
