F1 Haas, Steiner furious with Antonio Giovinazzi
Giovinazzi walled on lap 3, Steiner: “We sacrificed the first session.”
Haas team principal Gunther Steiner is very unhappy about Antonio Giovinazzi’s mistake, who went to the wall in the first free practice session of the Austin GP: “It was not great to end up at the wall on the third lap. I am relieved that the mechanics were able to fix the car for FP2. Giovinazzi got stuck trying to get out of the barriers by burning the clutch, which overheated. We couldn’t risk not changing it and then not even doing FP2. So we sacrificed FP1.”
Giovinazzi to RaceFans.net doesn’t feel he threw away a chance: “I apologize to Haas, it was also the fault of the wind- It doesn’t help, of course, but I showed what I can do in Formula 1. It’s not one lap or a few corners that end my career. If people are interested in me, it’s not for FP1 in Austin but for my career.”
