Paola Egonu will change numbers at Vakifbank Istanbul

Paola Egonu’s adventure at Vakifbank Istanbul in Turkey has officially begun. The club, which won all the competitions in which it participated last season, made a grand appearance on Tuesday, revealing that the blue star will have to say goodbye to her number 18, which she had always worn since 2016.

Center Zehra Gunes did not want to give up her number and Egonu will thus wear the number 8 uniform vacated by former captain Melis Gurkaynak, who retired last season. The new team captain will be another star, Brazilian Gabi.

The team’s goal is to win it all again, as confirmed by President Abdi Serdar Ustunsalih: “All the successes we achieved last season were written in gold letters in our glorious history, but now we are starting a new season from scratch with the same goals.” The opener on Oct. 29 against Fenerbahce.
