Atalanta goes through Empoli and gets back on top’s trail
Atalanta moves on to Empoli
Atalanta quickly forgot the first league defeat that came against Lazio, eking out a 2-0 win at the Castellani thanks to goals from Hans Hateboer and Ademola Lookman.
The guests imposed the pace of play from the early stages of the match and after chances by Lookman and Ederson on which Vicario was good, they found the lead through Hateboer. Ten minutes later the Nerazzurri have a chance to double but Vicario saves Koopmeiners’ penalty.
At the beginning of the second half Empoli tried with Pjaca but Musso responded and in the 59th minute Dea doubled with a goal by the usual Lookman who came close to a double a few minutes later but Vicario was still superlative. In the final cancelled a goal for Empoli with Ebuehi that could have reopened a match that was basically never in dispute.
Atalanta wins its fifth away game of the six played and returns momentarily to second place, -5 behind Napoli. Empoli suffers another home defeat and remains mid-table.
